Searching the Library Catalog Using Subject Headings

When searching for a book in the library catalog, start with a keyword search phrase. If there are no relevant keyword search results retrieved when searching , then:

1) choose broader keyword search terms, or/and
2) simplify your keyword search combination to one simple keyword search phrase.

Next, choose a relevant book for your list of search results; does one or more of its assigned subject headings seem relevant?

You can choose one heading, and click on it to find more.

Or, copy a subject heading, start a new search session in a new window, select subject search from the drop-down menu, and paste the subject heading into the search box.

Note the differences in keyword search results vs. subject heading search results
