Collection Development Policy: Special Policies 

Controversial Materials and Censorship 

RMU Library provides service in compliance with the following American Library Association documents and statements:

No item will be either excluded or removed from the collection of the RMU Library simply because it may be controversial, provided that it satisfies collection development criteria that would otherwise justify its inclusion.

The Library and its personnel subscribe to ARL’s
“Code of Best Practices in Academic and Research Libraries” http://www.arl.org/storage/documents/publications/code-of-best-practices-fair-use.pdf.

The RMU Library makes every effort to comply with all provisions of the United States Copyright Law U.S.C. 17 http://www.copyright.gov/title17/.

In addition, the RMU Library personnel adhere to ALA’s “Code of Ethics” in all services: http://www.ala.org/advocacy/proethics/codeofethics/codeethics.
